Fun time for Kuantan folk in cultural show to launch Local Arts Centre programme

The night life in Teluk Cempedak beach here was brightened up with the presentation of several cultural dance shows of both contemporary and traditional.
Parents, youths and the younger generation took time off over the weekend recently to visit the popular Teluk Cempedak beach in the town.
Dance troupes from the Pahang Culture and Arts Department and the similar troupe from Kelantan vowed the crowdwith traditional Malay dances. They also the members of public to dance along with them.
The show was held in comjunction with the launch of the Local Arts Centre programme and this goes on until October. The was also a “dikir barat” group from Kampung Sungai Ular.
The group’s two vocalists known as “Tok Jogho” and “Tukang Karut” were as usual singing without prepared lyrics or text and their spontaneous lyrics of the song attracting more tourists who were enjoying at the beach area to move closer to the show area.
A five-man team named “Didgeriddo Di Laut” were seen performing with a 400-year-old Australian trumpet or “Didgeriddo”.
Pahang Culture and Arts Department director Mohd Sukarno Abdul Wahab said he was fascinated strength of the crowd who were seated on the ground and others who were standing near the show area to watch the performances.
Mohd Sukarno said despite an earlier shower, the place was still crowded.
“The purposes of having the programme of the local arts centre in Teluk Cempedak was to create a permanent place for the arts and cultural shows to be shown to the public.
“The site may not be a permenant feature here. However, it will be here until October, and art lovers can display their paintings here either for commercial purposes or for public viewing,” he said.
Mohd Sukarno said the centre is also known as the Arts Industry East Zone Bazaar and it was opened in April this year.
He said the bazaar will be the platform for the display of the art products for viewing and for sales too.
